Nelli Toivonen

Nelli has tried out several sports since she was a kid, from Finnish baseball to ballroom dancing to combat sports. She first tried pole dance in 2012 and did that on and off for a few years. In February of 2016 Nelli saw an aerial hoop in Flight club, went to a lesson and completely fell in love with aerial acrobatics.

In addition to aerial hoop Nelli also does aerial hammock, some aerial silks and pole dance on occasion. She has competed with hoop three times and once with hammock, and enjoys performing. Nelli also has attended workshops of professional acrobats and circus artists, such as Irina Kharkova, Veera Hakala, Angela Kulagina, Aisling Ni Cheallagh and Sanni Vesterinen.

Nelli says, ‘The best thing about aerial acrobatics is the versatility. There are so many styles and tricks and combinations, the possibilities are endless. There are always new things to learn, you can always get better! I feel that I can express myself when I'm in the air and I hope I can help others find that joy too.’
